This is not a complete step by step pictorial.  I have tried to cover the major points during the conversion process.

Click on Thumb-Nail Image(s) for a full sized Image.

conversion-base-unit-prep-exterior.JPG (29179 bytes)
The first step in a Limousine Conversion.  A new Lincoln Town Car directly in from the dealership is stripped.  The interior is removed for the conversion process.  The base unit is covered with 3M welding and spark paper to protect the paint and interior that was not removed from being damaged during the conversion process.
conversion-base-unit-prep-interior.JPG (61806 bytes)
You can see that the dash and door panels have been protected.  The door glass has also been covered.  This base unit is almost ready to pushed forward onto the "Rails"  The rails as I call them is where the base unit pushed over a set of steel rails attached to the floor.  The base is then jacked up at 8 points.  4 points for the front 1/2 and 4 on the rear section.
conversion-on-the-rails-1.JPG (48136 bytes)
Here you can see two limousines on the rails.  The wheels are not actually touching anything at this point.  The whole Limousine is held up on two rolling dolly's that are on the rails.
conversion-on-the-rails-2.JPG (54762 bytes)
The front section of the limousine is jacked up on 4 jacks and is stationary.
conversion-on-the-rails-3.JPG (56459 bytes)
The rear section is held up on the rolling dolly.  You can see the two rails on the floor the the dolly rolls on.
conversion-on-the-rails-5.JPG (57604 bytes)
This is a clear picture of the rear section and the dolly.
conversion-on-the-tracks.JPG (51473 bytes)
This unit has been stretched and the roofline has been extended.
conversion-preping-for-floorpan.JPG (52678 bytes)
A bunch of different steps are visible is this shot.  First you can see the temporary X brace that was tack welded in place prior to cutting the base unit it two.   This keeps the base unit from warping during the process of being cut in two and is kept in place until the actual process of stretching the base is complete.  This employee is working on getting the original floor plan ready to be joined with the new extended section.  You can also see one of the two carrier bearing & cross members to facilitate the new 3 piece driveline.  The exhaust pipe has been extended.  Notice the the original door pilliar was cut towards the rear of where the drivers door originally would of been.
conversion-flooor-pan.JPG (70635 bytes)
This unit has the floor panels installed.  Two new pillar posts have been welded in place to attach the original front doors.  The roof is also taking shape in this photo.  And you can see that the front section is also held in shape via a temporary X brace.
conversion-open-side-1.JPG (57544 bytes)
At this point there is not much to the passenger compartment!  It would be a bit breezy.
conversion-open-side-2.JPG (54426 bytes)
The roof has yet to be installed.  You can see where the original roof has been cut.
conversion-rocker-panel-welding.JPG (35494 bytes)
Welding the new rocker panels in place.  Also visible is a cross member and a drive line carrier bearing.  The rails are also pictured.  And along the right edge you can see the structural steel used to extend the base units frame in this case the base in now 120 inches longer than it originally was.
conversion-structural-steel-1.JPG (24266 bytes)
The side structural steel has been welded in place.  Did you know that limousines are also crash tested.
conversion-structural-steel-2.JPG (26594 bytes)
Just a different view of the structural steel.
conversion-structural-steel-3.JPG (27893 bytes)
The roof is in place and the side structural steel has been welded to the new pillar post.
conversion-welding-floor-to-rockerpanel.JPG (47381 bytes)
The floor pan is welded in place.
conversion-installing-roof.JPG (47278 bytes)
The roof is being installed.  Also the side sheet metal has been installed over the structural steel.  This unit is very close to going to the paint shop.  The base unit next will be painted before having the interior installed.
conversion-reduction-window.JPG (53155 bytes)
A thin fiberglass "Limo" reduction window has been installed.  Some cheap conversions omit this step.  All of our limousine feature reduction windows for your privacy.
conversion-bar-unit.JPG (50822 bytes)
Here are two bar units that are ready to be installed.
conversion-mirrored-celing.JPG (35948 bytes)
This is a mirrored ceiling.  This particular unit has and etched design that is still covered.
conversion-seats-foam-installation.JPG (19435 bytes)
A "J" seat is being assembled in the upholstery shop.  The back of the seat is held in a jig and the back of the seat has been covered with foam.
conversion-top-door-padding.JPG (25568 bytes)
The top and the top of the doors have  been covered with foam padding prior to installing the vinyl top.  Notice that the foam has been sculpted so the doors flow into the roofline.  New Lincoln limousines doors flow from the doors into the roofline.
conversion-top-glue.JPG (25484 bytes)
Glue is being sprayed onto the roof to hold the vinyl top in place.  The rear portion of the roof has already been installed.
conversion-top-stretching.JPG (35607 bytes)
Two craftsman are in the process of stretching and placing the roof.  Contact type glue is used.
conversion-top-install-2.JPG (24903 bytes)
The roof is almost fully installed.  The tops of the doors need to still be covered.
conversion-rocker-panel-glueing.JPG (28642 bytes)
Glue is being sprayed to attach the stainless steel rocker panels.
conversion-lower-stainless-trim.JPG (51691 bytes)
The stainless steel rocker panels are being installed.
conversion-undercoating.JPG (32046 bytes)
The drive line is being masked off to protect it from over spray.  Next the undercarriage will be sprayed with a rubberized type undercoating.
conversion-undercoating-2.JPG (30960 bytes)
It takes a very big elevated ramp to be able to walk under a 120" limousine.
